Are you a student employee at the University? Did you know that gives you a second email account?

As an employee of the university, you have a secondary email account that ends in @email.gwu.edu.  Not many student employees know about this, and it’s an important thing to keep track of.  To first check if you have an email account go to the GW email homepage.  Click the login button under the Staff and Faculty box.  Log in with the same netid and password that you use for you @gwmail.gwu.edu account.

Obviously if you do have an account you will be connected.  At this point you may be wondering how people have found this email address.  When you have a @email.gwu.edu account, you have the entire GWU directory as part of your contacts.  For example try composing an email.  Type in a name of a friend that works on campus and you will see two different emails pop up.  Most likely the sender of the email just typed in your name and selected the first email that popped up.

Personally, I don’t get enough emails in this inbox to check it on a regular basis.  However, I don’t want to miss any emails that may be sent here.  I’ve set this email account up so it will directly forward emails to my @gwmail.gwu.edu account.  To do that first click the gear at the top right hand corner of the page.  Then click the settings option.

Then click the Forwarding and POP/IMAP option.  As you can see below, I have a copy of incoming mail forwarded to my @gwmail.gwu.edu account.

I know far too many students that log on that didn’t know they had an @email.gwu.edu account.  At the beginning of the Fall semester, the CSE did send out an email with this basic info, but if you were like me, I deleted it without reading it.  On the bright side, at least you can get another 6 months of amazon prime free!
